AFIR
Welcome to our AFIR Regulation Information page. Here, you can find detailed information about the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), including its key impacts, the devices it covers, and the associated obligations.
What is AFIR?
The Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) was presented by the European Commission on 14 July 2021 and aims at enabling the EU to reduce its net greenhouse gas emissions and at achieving climate neutrality in 2050.
To address this, the European Union has laid out a set of rules surrounding EV charging and will certainly go a long way in further bolstering Europe’s already robust EV-focused infrastructure.
For example, the rules stipulate that payment for use of the charging facilities must be accessible and easy for everyone. This means, easy and convenient payment methods.
Therefore, ad hoc payment methods are one of the key elements of AFIR. Publicly accessible EV chargers will accept common payment methods such as debit cards and/or QR code payments while providing transparent pricing information. Transparent and non-subscription-based payment options will be mandatory for publicly accessible charging stations, including QR codes for charging stations under 50 kW, and payment card readers for charging stations equal to or over 50 kW.
Impact on charging devices:
*Published devices refer to devices situated in locations accessible to the general public, regardless of whether they are on public or private property.

Process steps for static QR code sticker:
1. QR code sticker generation & delivery
When you register your device on our Mobiflow platform, we automatically generate a QR sticker and send it to you, the device owner. You don’t need to take any action here. Along with the QR sticker(s), you’ll receive a directive letter guiding you to this web page.
2. Verification of need for QR code sticker
Using the provided information above, check if you need to place the QR sticker.
- If it’s necessary, confirm via email to info@mobiflow.be, including the device serial number(s) from the sticker(s). This allows us to activate your QR code without further communication.
- If it’s unnecessary, notify us via email to info@mobiflow.be, including the device serial number(s) and specify the reason. This ensures we won’t bill you for the stickers.
3. Application of the QR code sticker
Carefully affix the QR sticker to your device, ensuring the respective device serial ID matches. Make sure the QR sticker is prominently displayed and easily accessible to all users.
Once the sticker is in place, you’re all set. We’ll handle the rest. A nominal fee of 9.90 EUR (excluding VAT) per sticker covers creation, delivery, and activation. Invoices are generated automatically and sent to your account.
Your device is now properly labeled, meeting regulations and opening up new business opportunities.
Important:
- If you meet the QR code criteria above and haven’t received a QR sticker from us, please email us at info@mobiflow.be, including the device serial number. Before doing so, ensure your device is already registered in our platform.
